About Wing Chun
Wing Chun (Ving Tsun) is a relatively recent system dating
back some 450 years. It was developed by simplifying several of the shaolin fighting styles to be more efficient & direct.
Fundamental principles are economy of motion and energy with relaxed fluid movements terminating with rapid explosive contact. The system uses deflections more than blocks and combines simultaneous defensive and offensive movements making this system exceptionally functional against larger or stronger opponents.
The system consists of three empty hand forms, one “wooden dummy” form (Muk Yang Jong) and two traditional weapons forms.
Several drills and exercises are very specific to the system including the “Chi Sau’ (sticky hands) drills, which greatly
improve the defensive and offensive skills.
Protecting ones self-centerline while simultaneously-attacking the opponents centerline
Maintaining a fluid, grounded stance and structure while compromising the opponent’s stance and structure
Constantly changing the line of attack as well as the type, location & combination of attacks while diverting the opponent’s attacks and structure
dragon kung fu
At Dragon, we respect the philosophies and art traditions while having eliminated some of the more “formal” traditions in order to create a fun interactive environment where each and every one is equal.
In order to provide quality teaching, the number of participants is limited
Due to the nature of the art, classes are for 16 years and older.
Having gained an admiration for the martial arts at a young age while watching the TV series “Kung Fu” with David Carradine (originally cast for Bruce Lee), it was only later that the love and
respect for Wing Chun came about after having tried variations of Karaté and Taoist Tai Chi.
